Sub-Zero Repair in Old Bellevue

Old Bellevue is the Main Street district along the southern edge of downtown, in the West sector of our map. The fault on this page is a Sub-Zero column door whose handle side has sunk lower than its hinge side.

A Sub-Zero column door that sags in an Old Bellevue kitchen drops at the handle side and can leave the top corner of its gasket short of the frame. The limit Sub-Zero sets

The heaviest panel Sub-Zero allows on a Designer column rises with its width: 45 lb for the 18-inch column, 60 lb for the 24-inch, and 75 lb once the column is 30 or 36 inches wide. A panel may be thicker or taller than standard, but only while it stays under that figure. Dense timber, inlay and heavy pulls add weight that a panel does not show by looking at it.

What we read, and why

The top reveal is measured at both ends first. If it opens toward the handle, the door has dropped. The cams on a Designer panel bracket move the panel; they cannot give a worn hinge back its lift, so adjusting the panel alone would only hide the sag for a while.

The seal is tested next. A dropped door tends to leave its top handle-side corner short of the frame, and that corner is where frost or sweat then starts.

Old Bellevue visit order

  1. Model and serial taken from the rating plate.
  2. Top reveal read at the hinge end and the handle end.
  3. Panel lifted off its brackets and weighed.
  4. A quote before anything is replaced, with the $89 service call folded into it, and the weight figure handed to a cabinetmaker if the panel is over.
  5. Once approved, the worn hinge replaced, the panel rehung, the reveals reset and the seal strip-tested again.
