Why a shut door can still set it off

The alarm answers to what the control senses, not to what the kitchen sees. A door can look closed and still stand a fraction of an inch off the frame. We look for the cause in this order:

• Something inside holding it: a door bin seated high, a tall bottle, a drawer short of home.
• A panel bearing on its neighbour, where the reveal has closed and the door stops before the end of its travel.
• A unit out of level. Sub-Zero warns that levelling to the cabinets instead of the floor can affect door closing.
• A gasket folded at a corner, holding the door off the frame there.

When the door is closed and it still sounds

If the door rests home, grips the strip evenly and the alarm carries on, the fault has left the door face. We test the door sensing and the control behind the panels. A door-ajar notice from Sub-Zero’s owner app, with the door shut, points the same way.

What the owner can set, and what is ours

Sub-Zero puts the alarm on the options screen, where it can be switched off and on; volume, pitch and duration sit under settings. Turning it off quiets the sound but closes nothing, and a door truly ajar shows up later as frost or a warm cabinet. Everything behind a panel is ours.
