Uneven Reveals Between Panel and Neighbouring Doors

What the reveal is for

The panel is cut to leave a small, even gap all round. That gap lets the door swing past the next cabinet without scraping, and it is the line the eye follows along a run of flush fronts. Sub-Zero sizes its typical panels for an 84-inch finished height with 1/8 inch reveals.

When the gap closes up

As a reveal narrows, fingers can be trapped at the closing edge, a risk Sub-Zero marks as a caution in its installation guide. The door also begins to bear on the panel beside it, so the last of its travel meets resistance and the gasket may stop short of the frame on that edge.

A tapering gap tells us more than a small one. Even but tight means the panel was set that way. Wider at one end means something has moved since.

How a panel is set back in line

We work with the door closed, move the panel on its screws or cams, and read the gaps again after every turn. Sub-Zero notes that a properly levelled unit needs door adjustments less often, so the level is read before the gaps are chased.

Two columns side by side

Paired columns are planned with Sub-Zero’s dual installation kit between them or a filler strip at least 2 inches wide. We measure the gap either side of that strip like any other reveal.
